Thursday, June 18 - Change Hotels and Day Hike

We slept well and went to the hotel dining room for breakfast. It was a very nice buffet - choices of different luncheon meats, cheeses, breads, cakes, croissants, assortment of jams/jellies, pancakes, cereals, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, juices, a coffee machine to make expresso, cafe, cafe latte, etc. My cafe latte was very good. Stoney really enjoys coffee in the morning and this morning was no exception. He drinks multiple cups.

Walking down to the street on the far right

Our reservations through Macs Adventure began today and we walked about 2 miles down the hill and into Les Houches to Hotel du Bois. We met David (from England), the owner, and we were surprised that our room was ready since it was well before noon and usually hikers don't check in until around 3 pm.

Nick chats with David (he has hiked the Tour du Mont Blanc and he answered our questions

It was warm so I removed the fur throws and put them in the closet

Since it was so early in the day, we decided to hike up to the see the Statue of Christ-Roi which overlooks Les Houches.

Christ the King up in the woods overlooking the Chamonix valley

It took about 90 minutes round trip; we enjoyed the walk. We took a different way back down to town and actually walked in a little neighborhood above Les Houches passing by where the owner of Les Campanule Hotel was out working in his yard.

The Statue of Christ the King is 82 feet high

Heading back to town

Visited this church on the way back to the hotel

Knelt at the altar, thanked God for a safe trip and asked Him to bless our hike.

Dinner at the hotel was good. We went to bed early in preparation for our first day of hiking.

Lots of flower boxes everywhere - beautiful.
